hope everyone is having fun playing dotes and improving. i have been basically just smashing games out with the lads *cough* watching terathiel feed *cough* and ive made the decision to grind the 800 mmr to 5k before i maybe cut back on doto and focus on life... so to do this im going the way of the cancer and main'ing a hero.
the hero i chose for my grind is magnus.
im asking dotoforo for any snippets of advice on how they play mag? how they think mag fits now? item builds? basic "oh i find i buy X item when playing against X hero" or "my timings are x:xx for x item and then i like to Z"
current build is MID (starting is :PMS:2 shared Tangoes: fairy fire) into bottle - treads - echo - blink - SB/force - bkb/bloodthorn - BoT's - shivas/refresher.
i had a look at the mag guides on here but tbh they are kinda outdated.
play style is reactionary (staying in lane) for the first 12 -16 mins by then i have blink echo treads. i go 4-4-2-1 by 12 with 15% spell amp taken at 10. then 90+ gold for next talent.
any thoughts dotoforo? what hidden nuggets of knowledge do you lovely people have hidden?
Why Magnus Smug? Hero has not been as successful this meta, we were talking about this the other day in Discord.
You're mainly an enabler of plays, IMO, and if you opt for that build your early game is so stationary that you're useless to your team (and you're weak to ganks). If you rush Blink Dagger you need to use it to get full potential, else just farm Echo Sabre first anyway like most people are doing now, since you'll farm it slightly faster than the other way around - unless you still go ham when you have the Blink, in that case forget what I said!
I'm not the greatest fan of right click Magnus cause I think that is not how the hero is meant to be played, but nowadays like someone said you probably need to do it anyway if you want to have relevance in the late game, especially since you're not playing the hero to enable another one like a Juggernaut or an Ember Spirit, but just playing it regardless.
1. Bloodthorn is really strong on magnus. If you have a melee carry - you can empower the melee carry, bloodthorn anyone you RP and suddenly you have crit attacks that ignore armor hitting everyone.
2. Agh's is good if you have a ranged carry - it's surprisingly strong and it gives decent stats. (also it fully affects visage birds, so drow visage magnus is a thing).
3. Personally, I favour the good old Blink > Force > SB > Refresher > Octarine build - but this scales pretty badly into the late game, even though SB can be upgraded to Silver edge.
