I am having a bit of a trouble with some small lag spikes when I'm in game. I recently built my own desktop specifically for gaming, so I know the machine is not to blame, nor is my internet connection, but I am experiencing consistent delays.
My ping has ranged from 23 m/s to 93 m/s, but it always has these small spikes when a lot is going on. I even get some spikes when I scroll across the map.
I am hoping someone else experienced this problem and has found a way to fix it. I am currently running Dota 2 on the highest graphic settings, which shouldn't be a problem for my machine.
You can either lower your graphics settings and see if it helps (regardless of how much better than your comp may be than the recommended specs).
You can try playing on a different server (doubtful that this will change anything).
Or you can ugprade your internet (not recommended).
Basically, if the source of the problem isn't your computer, there isn't much you can do. Since it's spiking during traffic, it seems very likely that it is the computer.
I've been having a similar issue today and yesterday. I don't usually experience any lags no matter which server I'm playing on. But the last two days I've been experiencing lags of up to 5 seconds when there is a lot going on. Luckily they haven't yet got me killed, but I wonder if the problem is on valve's end. idk
Thanks for the feedback. I assumed it had to be something to do with my computer because my ping is always great. I just wasn't sure if it was a problem that others were dealing with. I spent over $400 on the video card alone so I don't think its the problem.
I live on the east coast of the US and regardless of my ping/server, i still experience the same issue.
I have tried to reduce my graphics settings to lower levels, but I still experience the same problems. I am not sure what else to try.
I feel your pain PhYrE-bAt... I've played a few hundred games and have had no lag or lag spikes for that matter until the last 2 mini-updates.
I now experience ping over 100 and stuttering throughout some games. I would say every second or third game is an issue. A game like DOTA is not fun to play with latency issues and I know 5 of the guys I play with are now experiencing similar problems. I truly enjoy DOTA and have since WC3 days but not sure if the frustration every other game is worth the fun ones.
Do you share your internet? It could spike because of heavy traffic through router.
Are you using wireless internet? Your router/wireless internet device might be a bit too old for seamless data transfer. For me, using ethernet eliminates any spike problems I would have on wireless.
