I’ve been having a bit of trouble coming up with designs for a while, so I want to take this opportunity to have a bit more fun. Of course, that doesn’t mean quality will be compromised for the sake of that but certain parts will seem a little… unusual. For example, I’m mad that Icefrog has culled our One Button King, so a lot of focus will be put on resurrecting that aspect of him. I understand the changes were made due to mechanical reasons like wave management as well as just to make him less dull, so these will be kept in mind going forward. His spells will also be reinvented to be more interesting while still preserving their relative simplicity. And as the theme this time is royalty, this rework will also try to make him feel kinglier and revolve more around his loyal subjects.
As a disclaimer, this rework is not intended to balance him but to explore his kit as laid out above. Here is the current Wraith King for reference, and any unmentioned numbers are assumed to remain the same.

The level 20 Mortality Aura talent adds 15% critical damage for non-controlled creeps.

The level 25 Reincarnation talent spawns all 6 Wraithlings instantly behind his corpse. This talent only affects him and not his Wraithlings.
Discussion
His signature ultimate in Reincarnation remains more or less the same. The interesting revival aspect of his summons is now tied to this ultimate to fit more power into their base forms, making up for the fact that they are summoned in less numbers now. More on them a little later. The directional based slow and speed buff allow for better skill expression from the player, rewarding good positioning like Bristleback and Bulwark even while dying. Since the buff is applied upon death and is not an aura, this fact is even more important to take note of. Facing death face first, quite literally, is your best bet in punishing kill attempts while simultaneously helping your own army.
Wraithfire Blast is now Wraith Fling, trading the burn damage to lob a skeleton instead of a fireball, better matching its actual icon. The disables that are still present help him and his Wraithlings beat down the unfortunate target. This is also reminiscent of Spawn Spiderlings where smart target selection is rewarded. Unlike that spell, you can target heroes and still summon at least 1 Wraithling but sometimes, spawning 2 in the early game can be incredibly strong. What else is so great about this change? Wraith King Wraith Flings Wraithlings. I didn’t lie when I said I wanted to have fun. But really, the opportunity was always there to name them that. Aside from the name change, how they are summoned and how they are resummoned, keep in mind that these little Wraithlings are essentially the same as his current Skeletons. Probably a little greener too. These guys also better interact with the rest of his updated basic abilities.
Speaking of which, Vampiric Aura has been replaced by Tribute while Mortal Strike has been replaced by Mortality Aura. This new W is a lot more selfish and suitable for a king such as Ostarion, having his followers sustain him instead of themselves. As the aura still affects him, it is essentially still just lifesteal for his own attacks. Now that all this healing is now directed to himself, his base durability has to come down. And since it is no longer directed at the allies themselves outside of the late game talent, it no longer automatically pushes waves so doesn’t need to be toggled. As his summons have been moved to Q, his E can return to fully being a passive. Instead of supporting his followers with healing, he now brings out their damage potential as fitting for his rule. As made clear by now, I strictly refuse to make this a toggled ability because first off, Return of the One Button King. But don’t worry as since this aura is applied on enemies instead of allies, he can prevent pushing by staying far from the creep wave outside of last hitting. Secondly similar to his ultimate, this dynamic then introduces a little bit of skill expression in an otherwise simple passive spell. If Wraith King wants to benefit from Tribute without pushing, he has to position himself really well. The proc chance of this aura might be low but with enough allies and his incredibly sustain, it's bound to trigger at least a couple of times before he goes down.
In terms of talents for this revamped Wraith King, the left side provides more utility while the right side offers more damage. He can chain together specific level 15 and 20 talents for extra synergy. Amplify the damage of his Wraithlings and then further amplify it with the Mortality Aura boost. Grant them Lacerate but potentially drain their mana which prevents them from respawning, though this drawback can be circumvented by the free Reincarnation talent. The weakness of the Lacerate talent isn't inherently that bad since if they've spent that much mana, that means they've at least slowed a couple of times. At level 25, choose between regaining his lifesteal aura or letting him summon an army of Wraithlings that are guaranteed to be upgraded, should he ever fall. Not So Fun Fact: Did you know that taking the current level 25 Reincarnation talent removes the slow from the ability itself? Still worth it despite that but design wise, it feels dumb for a talent to potentially be a big hindrance if the enemy has any disjoints, so is replaced by this hopefully equally fun one of mass spawning summons that will immediately be boosted by his ultimate's move speed bonus.
Overall, Ostarion should remain relatively similar in terms of playstyle but with a different dynamic. His current kit revolves around sustaining himself and allies while slowly threatening to deal massive damage. This rework shifts most of the durability to himself, asking him to rely on his allies and Wraithlings to deal the majority of his damage. Their added damage then heals him, creating a constant cycle that feeds into itself in order to crush any foe. As a carry, he is still a formidable hero whose sustain lets him turn any fight into one of attrition while as a support, he now boosts their damage instead of their healing. He now synergizes even better with heroes who summon or dominate a lot of creeps, as his abilities do not have a lesser effect on them than regular lane creeps. And yes, the icons for his other abilities come from Skeleton King. Never forget.
