Liv the healing swan was raised in the mountain gardens of the the huntsman himself, Odin. His daughter Hella first found her during their initial conquest for Asguard rule, before the birth of Thor. Hella attempted to turn the swan into its darker cosmic form as an omen tool for Odin's rivals, more of a scare tactic than a real strategy if you asked the old goat. But Odin had other plans in mind for the graceful creature. He brought the feathered spirit home as a gift for his then lover, Freya, or more commonly known as Frigga. Over the next several summers, the swan grew closer to the goddess, who slowly came to understand that the Swan was longing to help the Asgardian people, in their war torn age, to recapture the life and heart of their people, and move out of the age of war to a new age of growth and peace. But in order to do this Liv would have to be transformed to her mortal form. as a Valkyrie, joining the ranks of the now near extinct league of shield maidens who would give their lives for Asguard against the insatiable hunger of the corrupted God of Death, Hella, Liv entered into one on one combat with the monster herself. After a long and hopeless battle, Hella could not kill this last Valkyrie, but neither could Liv get an advantage over Hella. Frustrated and infuriated at the Valkyrie's tenacity, Hella created a portal to the Elder Titan's Shattered world, finally managing to push Liv into the abyss. When Hella returned from her banishment, she feared the return of the Valkyrie for the remainder of her miserable power trip. Liv on the other hand, tried many times to escape the battle of the Ancients, with no avail. When all hope seemed lost, Heimdall made a special visit to inform her of Asguard's demise and the new rule of their people on Midguard. Liv found new friends among the heroes of the Radiant. Now she seeks to have the powers of life and good travail over the darkness of the Dire, and always with the small but enduring hope that one day she will find a way to break free and do some good for Asguard once more.
