This is one of the best guide that I have ever seen; very detailed, colourful and lots of useful information. One small facts is, if the winter's curse target is facing toward enemies hero, you can force staff the targeted hero, which will not only effect the new location's enemy, but also the enemy on path he had been forced through, as a result, your ult maximum range is 800X400.....
Great answer! When you put it that way, makes total sense. Frankly I would add a shorted version into your guide, Cold Embrace provides the regen and physical defense that you need. Very elegant.
Quick question: what boots do you recommend if you're playing WW as a hard 5? The Phase Boots are a great fit but I will never ever have the cash for that. Just go Tranquil Boots?
If you're really struggling it's not unusual to just stick with your Brown Boots, and that's fine. Upgraded boots are great because they provide cost effective benefits, they aren't mandatory because their most important component will always be the +50 movement speed you already have. You will get Boots of Travel in the late game regardless.
Get stuff like Urn of Shadows or Medallion, a Magic Wand is pretty solid too. Alternatively you can get cheaper components like Sage Mask to then turn into Euls further down the line.
Tranquils seems tempting since they are cheap, but that's still 550 gold not going on a better purchase. Tranquil Boots are not worth it most of the time, they give you regen and armor but you already have Cold Embrace to give you both regen and an answer to physical damage dealers, as Winter Wyvern you can solve all your sustain issues by just having alot of mana. The main problem of course is that Arctic Burn will force you to break your tranquils, so you have to choose between your skill and your regen, when you can get mana regen and have both. Don't do it, get early Phase, save up for Arcanes, or just get other items.

Been using DotaFire since last year and I've never been compelled to create an account, much less comment, until now. Used this guide (in pubs) and I'm currently 7-0 with W.W. Both solo and playing 5v5 with friends.
I typically buy Courier, Tango, and Clarity at the start. In lane, I Q once to harass, grab boots at SS, then Sage Mask to make up for any early mana usage. If the hero your supporting is worth their salt (and you land a clutch cold embrace), things can snowball pretty quickly. Splinter also harasses the everpresent Riki quite well.
Really like the build on this one, it's the same one I hashed out after playing a few games. Never thought of using phase boots though, I'll have to try it out! Thanks!
Well Winter Wyvern is fairly versatile so the key is adapting to the game. Sometimes you need Splinter Blast maxed first to deal with a heavy fighting line-up, or even a few points in Cold Embrace for early laning. Phase and Euls are fantastic for keeping you mobile but sometimes you just need a Force Staff before you even upgrade your boots, etc.
Generally in pub games Arcanes have seen way more success than Phase Boots, that can be down to people building it on a "carry" Wyvern, but I still like Phase for just how much it enables Arctic Burn and mobility in general. If you were to focus on nukes then getting Arcanes or even the Intelligence from Treads might make the difference.
As long as you aren't using Tranquil Boots it's all good, can't think of a less synergistic item for Winter Wyvern than those.

Good guide, haven't played Winter Wyvren since her first release in DoTA 1.
When I was playing I noticed my Splinter Blast targeting Riki when he was close. Is this suppose to happen or not?
Yep. I actually managed to kill somebody using a Shadow Amulet by firing shards at nearby creeps, so it not only hits invisible enemies but will pinpoint their location too. The ability cannot be disjointed by anything.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Great guide, echoing the +1s.
