I think that Lycan should start out in lane if he has support until he hits level 5 with level 3 wolves. This allows him to not start behind but then can take full advantage of the jungle. The slow start can really hurt him so he should start out in lane. Lycan in the jungle is very useful and reliable once he hits level 5 because it opens up a lane for a support and the wolves make clearing camps really easy.
Very nice guide here. Read through the whole thing and you inspired me to try some new things out. I would agree that there's a lot of text here, but for those who ware looking to learn it's well worth the read.
People are going to comment about Lycanthrope's lack of ability to jungle, but time has proven that he's very viable out there, even with the changes made in 6.79. He can be a slow start, and I like your approach.
I'm interested to see your video once you get your software up and running.
I do agree that Lycan never really lost the ability to jungle. He just requires more protection than he did back when the Summoned Wolves had double the health they did now. Hopefully now that the video guide is up, that will at least somewhat be shown.
And thanks for the feedback! I've got to say, it's definitely makes me happy to see the person who made the Lycan guide of choice on here giving a positive response on my guide.

I actually tried to jungle with Lycanthrope using a Bottle, with bots: I can get a pretty normal level using the small camp only twice (so it's free for the supports after the 2:00 minute mark), but I haven't tried without it; you're also very dependent on your Courier, so the mid or off-laner might have some troubles bottle crowing. I'll try with your suggestions as soon as possible, though I think Lycan't attack damage is enough to make him a good laner; after all, damage is the main problem of carries Anti-Mage and Phantom Assassin who don't even have laning presence, so Lycanthrope is actually a good laner in some ways.
I might have to try using a Bottle if you're able to give up the small camp that early. Lycan's damage in lane is good, having 60 damage boosted even further by Feral Impulse is nothing to scoff at, I can't deny that. It's just somewhat problematic because he can't really do all that much to ranged heroes in lane because they aren't going to allow him to walk up and hit them without punishing him severely. Obviously the lane support can aid with that, but it still makes things hard on Lycan himself. I do think he would be able to do more in a fighting situation early on than the afromentioned carries, but he wouldn't have a good way to get out if things didn't go in his favour like they would. (Albeit situationally in Phantom Assassin's case.)

The guide is visually appealing, but I don't think jungling Lycan is still viable (not with a support that wants to creep pull at least): the small camp is now used by supports for pulling, and by the time you get the first 3-4 camps you'll be underlevelled anyway; you can get one or two extra levels with Roshan, but if the enemy team wards the surroundings you're going to die and stay underlevelled. Alternatively, you can get a Bottle after your first 2-3 camps and Bottle crow until you can get your Morbid Mask. Also, you should consider getting the Black King Bar before the Skull Basher since a Lycan without immunity to disables can easily go down; unless the enemies have Bane and the likes, it's the best post-Vlad's item.
I personally think jungling with him is still the better thing to do, since as I mentioned, he has no good form of lane presence, and that can be very problematic if the enemy team tries to get a kill on him before he gets Shapeshift. You do raise a point about the small camp now being important for supports, so I'll try and do some experimenting with the middle of the jungle route to see how little he can use the small camps safely.
As far as the Roshan thing goes, as I mentioned, the Lycan player needs to get Smoke of Deciet if they plan on actually killing him, because walking in there in what could be plain sight is an awful idea. If the enemy team checks Roshan anyway then there's not much they can do but run, but that's the case with any hero that tries to get an early Rosh kill really.
I have actually been shifting more towards getting BKB first over Basher recently, so I'll get around to changing the guide to reflect that. I wouldn't say it's the first thing that should be bought after getting Vlads, because I feel that getting Treads first will benefit him more, but as a third item I do think it's probably the best choice.
Also I knew I messed up wording something when it came to writing about Naga, I'll get that fixed.

PS: Song of the Siren doesn't go though BKB.

What are your opinions on getting a level of Feral Impulse at level 1 laning Lycantrophe?
I haven't actually tried that myself before, but doing it does make sense. I might have to give that a try next time I play Lycan in lane.
