I was recently referred to this article which showcases an interesting info graphic about DotA.

Quoted:

Dota, Defence of the Ancients, is the latest hype in gaming. Initially developed as a modified game in Starcraft, the concept has now grown globally and has even made its way into professional competitions. Popular game titles that have implemented the "DotA" concept include Warcraft 3, DotA Allstars, DemiGod, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and Realm of the Titans. Two more upcoming titles that will certainly get the gaming world's attention are DotA 2 and Blizzard DotA.

So what is DotA exactly? Our trusty graphics boffins have once again created the infographic below for the complete history on how the new genre came about.

And DotA2 is the best of them ^^!
If the day should ever come when we must go, if some day we are compelled to leave the scene of history, we will slam the door so hard that the universe will shake and mankind will stand back in stupefaction.

Having tried most of these, I feel that one isn't really "better" than the rest, but different, and good in it's own way.

I think they are all good on their own way, I've played HoN, LoL, and DOTA 2. Although I've been playing LoL a lot more but that's only because my friends are playing LoL. Plus they all have their differences. I like the variety in LoL and the games are a lot faster than DOTA 2. I play DOTA2 when I want to test how good I am ie. last hitting and denying. Lol is way more forgiving than DOTA 2. They are both fun in their own ways and I have fun playing both equally. HoN is a different story, I mostly play to practice Zeus whom is my favorite hero. It also helped me get into DOTA2. I still play it once in a while but Mostly I play LoL and DOTA 2. There's no need to compare them to be honest. It's like comparing World of Warcraft with Guild Wars 2.

You are wrong about the length of the game, most LoL games last 45-60 minutes.
HoN is the only one up there that I havn't played.

I enjoy the larger test of skill as well. Lol just wasn't hard enough.
