Ganker/Support

DotA2 Hero: Bane

Welcome

Well, I guess welcome to my guide on Bane.

To get things straight:
-Yes, I like Bloodseeker, but I also enjoy Bane
-This guide will take two different paths, one is for ganking and the other for actual supporting
-I enjoy critiscism. Any adjustments that need to be made, just say the word
-I am kinda new to DOTA, but I know how to build Bane.

Before we get started

Let us look at the pros/cons of Bane
-Very good nuke
-Can disable quite well
-Can be a great ganker/support
-Nightmare can be used to deny allies
-Enfeeble can screw the enmy carry up

- Can be squishy
-Very slow movement speed
-Without his mana and abilities, he is just another creep
-His abilites die down by late game
-Nightmare can screw YOUR carries up

Now some foes (People who can make Bane's life a "nightmare")

This son of a ***** and his ult can screw with Bane. With his illusions, he can make Bane waste his ult on them, creating a window for Chaos to have dinner with Bane. Plus, the fact that he has a teleport, stun and crit multiplier which is a damn shame for Bane.

Terrorblade is a nightmare as well for the same reason as Chaos Knight, his illusions. Brain Sap can wittle alot of his health at early game due his squishiness, however, the slow and the ability Metamorphosis can create some trouble for Bane and his lane partner.

Bloodseeker with his insane movement speed can make dinner out of Bane. Sure, TP scroll and he is doomed. However, if you are the people who do not carry a TP scroll, he will chase you down like hell. The silence can also screw Bane like no other. Speaking of silences...

Yep. This will set any spell caster back, this includes Bane. As stated previously, without his abilities, Bane is just another creep

There are others such as anyone with a good mana drain(Such as Anti Mage or Lion) or anyone with a stun (Such as Nyx and Lion)

I will include food and allies throughout the rest of the guide.

Quick Summary of skills

Enfeeble: Quite possibly the worst thing to happen to a right clicker. this reduces quite alot of the attack damage on auto attack. Great against right clickers, not so much against spell casters

Brain Sap: Bane's bread and butter. This does damage to the enemy and heals Bane, keeping him alive longer. Great finishing move in a fight

Nightmare: A great escape mechanism. Although, it doesn't say it, it can be used as an escape mechanism for Bane. best thing, Bane isn't affected by it! Downside is that team mates are stupid enough to attack the opponent...

Fiend Grip: His greatest ganking tool. This allows Bane to drain mana and HP from the enemy! This is useful early to mid game. However, it is a channelled ability so he is vunerable during the duration. Goes through magic immunity.

Early Game feasting

Read this if you are going to the ganking role

Bane is an interesting beast due to his ganking abilites early to mid game. If you are going to the ganking role, here is some tips to start off:
-Even when ganking, it is best to provide some support to your team. It would be benficial if you bought the wards or the courier (Work it out with the other supports if there is more than one)
-Be wary and get your head straight. You are squishy as hell all through the game. Make safe choices.
-Don't rush expensive items straight up. Buy the individual parts THEN buy it. You get the items quicker and have an advantage due to the the buffs the indiviual parts provide
-At the start, buy clarities. Buying those will ensure you do not run out of mana at the laning phase.
SAFE LANE
For a ganking role, this is not too bad. With the jungle area, you can sneak around the creep line to strike at the enemy. However, nine times out of ten, you will be laning with someone (A carry for the most part) and they will be laning with someone. Remember, you are still a support, meaning you do not get the kills if your carry is in lane. HOWEVER, if you are alone in the safe lane, it is perfect. The brain sap ability will ensure that you stay alive during the laning phase. Staying behind your creep lines will ensure if something goes horribly wrong, you can always go back to the tower. In this lane you can also use the jungle as a way to gain back health.

MID LANE
This lane is only used for Bane if there is no good mid heroes around at all. This is very rare but if there isn't, Bane can be a good choice for mid. The sooner he can get Fiend Grip the sooner he can be a useful ganker. Going mid can also provide an easy access to ward the runes. Problem with Bane midding is that he cannot hold his ground against othr mid heroes such as Pudge, which can provide problems. While with the sae lane you level brain sap as quickly as possible, for mid I suggest enfeeble or nightmare due to you will be running alot more if the enemy has a good enough mid hero. When getting fiend grip, start roaming from top to bottom, ready to gank.

HARD LANE
I do not recommending to lane for ganking here. This is horrible for a ganking Bane since he won't enough time or damage to farm his Fiend Grip which is the conerstone for his ganking abilities. This lane is more suited to support Bane.

Read this if you are going support Bane.
Some hints about support Bane
-Don't expect the item flow to be the same as Ganker Bane. This Bane is for supporting your carry which can be more satisfying.
-Study your enemies carefully and think on what you should level up. Brain sap is a must on all Banes but enfeeble and nightmare can be changed up depending on who is in your lane. Say that there was a heavy clicker (Bloodseeker), go enfeeble. This will reduce the damage he does on his clicks. On the other hand, if there is someone with speed that can harrass your carry (Say, windranger), go nightmare. This will stop them in their tracks and allows for an escape.
-Buy salves for your lane partner and tangoes for yourself. Your lane partner needs the health more than you.

SAFE LANE
This lane for supporting Bane is probably his best chance to shine. This lane allows for enough farming for both people. Brain Sap is quite a good harrasment in this lane and damages the enemy enough for your partner to get the kill. For this lane, I suggest anyone who can farm easily and have damaging abilites such as Bounty Hunter, Tinker and Doom.

MID LANE
Not sure why anyone would support mid but if it is something you need to do...

Deny, deny, deny. The whole point of mid is to farm abilities to help gank. That is what your carry is doing and that is what the enemy is doing. While your carry is farming mid, he won't have enough time to stop the flow of experience to the enemy. What to do? Deny the hell out of the creeps (And occasionally heroes). Bane is ranged, meaning he can deny easily. If he keeps denying, the carry in lane will be strong enough to start roaming or kill the enemy at the mid tower. The usual suspects are the best ones to lane in this lane (Pudge, Sniper, Drow Ranger etc.)

HARD LANE
As ganker bane, you needed to avoid this lane at all times. As support Bane, you are required here if no other supports are present. This will test you to certain limits. With the creepline being closer to their tower, you need to saty vigialant. Don't worry about farming and worry alot more about the welfare of your carry. Buy additional salves and claritites because you wil be spending alot more mana and health on this lane. Harras like no tommorow with Brain Sap and protect your carry with nightmare if they themselves are being harrassed. If you keep you and your carry alive during the laning phase, it will be worth it due to the farm the carry will get. Best people to go into this lane with is Juggernaut and Terrorblade

Mid Game madness

Once again, ganking Bane section
You now have fiend grip? at least level 2 Brain Sap? One point in nightmare/enfeeble? Let us start ganking then.

You are now able to start roaming a bit and start the ganking phase of the game. Now, Bane is a god when it comes to 1v1 or even 2v1 ganking because of his abilites if used together. If against 1v1, it is important to start Fiend Grip as soon as the enemy is in sight. This will stop them from making a move if they see you before you saw them. If this is a mana based hero, that is better since fiend grip drains the mana from the enemy targeted. Once fiend grip has ended, nightmare them to stop them running away. This will also give you time to prepare for Brain Sap. As soon as nightmare ends, Brain Sap them. This should kill them early-mid game if you level correctly. 2v1 is similar except that you skip nightmare. Enfeeble is only used if your brain sap did NOT kill them. This will make sure they don't wittle your health down while you spa click to death. Keep roaming and killing. During this phase, I would recommend Arcane Boots to get enough mana to do the combo. Soul ring can also be use to give mana during this period. Buy a staff of wizardry to start the journey to make necromonicon or Arghaim's sceptar. Blink Dagger can be purchased to get the hell out of a situation

Support Bane is back!
Carry in lane now eating? You kept him alive long enough? Good, now start the long pushing road.

For a support, still get Arcane Boots to help keep your Carry's mana pool full. This will help the damage and of course, the Carry not having to run back to base to regen mana. At this time, you can purchase Blink Dagger to get yourself out of there if the carry is not going to win and you need to escape. You could go force staff instead to save your carry but sacrafice yourself. Ring of Basilius will help the pushing of the towers during this time. Again, you can start the road down necromonicon and Arghaim's at this time.

Late game nightmare

At this particular point, it does not matter as much if you have been ganking or supporting because by this time the carries are awake and snowballing it. However, you can still be useful. In this time, team fights will be breaking out everywhere, making Bane useful in these situations. His Fiend Grip is as useful as a Doom in a team fight since it takes a person out of the fight for a short duration. This will also be the time where pushes are crucial. That is why Bane must get Necromonicon. This will push the lanes like nothing and provide extra support to the team (With the true sight around the area which is provided by Necromonicon 3). Arghaim's will provide Bane more usefulness due to the extra damge, time and mana drain during Fiend Grip. He will continue to make a presence in the battle IF he gets Arghaim's. Here, is where the two roles split. If you have enough gold from the ganks, get Shiva's Guard. This will help during the push to scare away the enemy. This will also slow down their push. If have gone down the supporting path, I recommend Mekansm. This provides armour and health boosts that every carry requires.

If all goes well, your carry leads the push while the Necromonicon minions damage the towers/ancient and you tkae out the enemy's hard carry out of the fight until your carry arives.

Situational events

I have added a situational item area due to these reasons
Gem of True Sight: THIS is you and your carry's saviour during laning and ganking. Buy this if there is an invis enemy. Make sure to give it to your main carry so he can stay alive.
Helm of the dominator: Finding that Bane is dying way to quickly? Any lifesteal item works for him but I chose Helm because the ability to control creeps. Using this will help with pushes since you have one additional unit to help the push
Refresher orb: Getting this makes sure you can get two fiend grips and two Brain Saps in late game. This will help the team alot more.
Eul Scepter: This is to make sure your carry can get away. If nightmare is on cooldown, this will stop them chasing down your partner.
Heaven's Halberd: Disabling is nice with Fiend grip but thsi disables even more if you need a longer disable period
Pipe of insight: Carry geetting focused down by magic attacks? Get the pipe to make sure your carry is surviving.

So here we are, at the end

This is my finished guide on Bane. If you would like to add anything to it, please comment because I want to become a regualr guide maker. Thank you and remember...
