That's what I meant. And no, that's not what I mean. Because they don't just do empty threats, they actually do it. And what is worse is that nobody attempts to strike back.

this comment confuses me.

Background: 17 year-old American high school student.

Me and some friends have actually been discussing this topic over the past week, and this is my honest opinion on the matter.

Did Charlie Hebdo deserve what happened to them? No. Taking another human life because you took offense to something they said or did is the surest way to lose support for what you stand for. Satire is supposed to talk about touchy subjects in a humorous manner meant not necessarily to ridicule, but to bring about a discussion of topics that are too controversial to talk about in any other way. Look at so many Satirists. Mark Twain (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn), Jonathan Swift (Gulliver's Travels), Aristophanes (Considered the father of comedy), Steven Colbert (The Colbert Show). Yes some of their books and writings are controversial, but they were intentioned in such a way to start the conversation about touchy subjects like religion, racism, sexism, and the like.

Now I grew up in a Christian household, and I was taught from the time I could speak to respect other's beliefs. I have learned to be tolerant of others beliefs, and many Christians are. But just as in anything you are going to have extremists who are willing to do anything for their beliefs. It's just the same here. You have a group of extremists willing to go to great lengths in order to protect their beliefs. Does killing someone in the name of religion make it right? No it doesn't. It's like a little kid stabbing another kid because he called him stupid. It's abominable, and shows no forethought or consideration of the consequences.

So in conclusion, The Charlie Hebdo killings were unjustifiable, and cruel. Satire is everywhere. Not everyone is going to believe the same thing that you might believe, and that's fine. We live in a world of differences, and if we cannot learn to live with those differences we experience every single day then it's going to be a harsh life for anyone. If we plan to coexist as a species we need to not give up our differences, but learn to tolerate them and love those who think differently than us.

Thank you for your time,

-BK

Just a quick thought: we should try to avoid turning this into a full debate forum, nothing normally gets accomplished in those anyway.
I got to Notable, Thanks!

The killing is controversial, sure,

But the caricature itself is offensive.

The killing may be controversial.

But offending a religion is just a **** move.

They pushed the limit, they were aware of that. But if you never push the limit, we'll never accept stuff that should be accepted. Really the question is who defines the limit.
Anyways, the guys attacked with bombs while Charlie Hebdo attacked with pencils.

Sorry guys, but apparently I need to get the datas as of where you get your opinions from. As in, do you get your opinion from reading on newspaper/internet, or from your parents/teacher/friends? Can you probably share them to me?
