I posted it 3 times because it's how I felt and I don't see the need to reword it or type it again. Also I made it clear I don't want to deter people from playing dota2. Even said I bet it does well and I signed up for beta and will give it a shot. I just wanted someone to prove me wrong and thus far no one has. Not a LoL fanboy. Just looking for a reason to switch but don't have one yet.
@lich I have been comparing dota2 and LoL not original dota. Also HoN is a standalone game and is not that great and an exact copy. I feel dota2 is a copy with better graphics probably less bugs and maybe a bit more fun but stil a copy. I also never told anyone not to enjoy dota2. I made it clear that there would be people who like it. My point is my analogy holds true LoL is WoW to Dota being Everquest.
@restrictnine Again lying to yourself. You know the EU servers had to be split from so many people playing LoL? hours of Queue time and people still played. 15 million registered worldwide. Do the math bro. Also football is way better than futbol. So your argument is moot hahhahahahahahhaha
Let me say this one more time for the idiot fanboys with rage eye calling me out when they are the ones being closed minded: I WANT TO LIKE DOTA2. I HOPE IT DOES WELL. READ MY WHOLE POST NEXT TIME
For the Love of God Dota 2 is not Everquest, while LoL is WoW...
15 million accounts worldwide is more like 10 million players, the majority of LoL players have several account for when they get banned, they make another one.
Dota 1 has more players than LoL, and nearly all of them will migrate to Dota 2. Many players from HoN and LoL will also come to play Dota 2, as they left 1 as it began to have issues trying to find decent games.
Yes Dota 2 is a copy... it was always meant to be a copy. Dota 2 is the game Dota 1 players want, so they can play match making of their favourite game without having to resort to garena etc.
It has always been the intent to have Dota 2 be the same as Dota 1, with a few minor balancing changes. I don't understand why you would think Valve and Icefrog would completely change their game that is directed to the huge playerbase of Dota
Reasons to switch:
-It is the original 'MOBA' (a term created by Riot) game. Before the word MOBA, games were described as the Dota Genre
-It was made 7 years ago, and has had 7 years of refinement
-IceFrog the current creative director of the mod has been working with Valve, one of the highest critical acclaimed developers in the gaming industry
-The creator of LoL began as the previous creative director of Dota
-Dota plays differently to LoL and has more skill based things (last hitting is harder, denying, non respawning inhibs)
-Dota also has a destructable jungle that allows for juking (an advanced skill), you have to buy tp scroll
-Dota punishes mistakes such as losing gold on death, this makes people learn from mistakes much faster
-Dota is a highly team based game, one man cannot carry a team. There are also no tanks, just initiators that are almost always the first to die
-Icefrog listens to the community and changes the game based on the opinion of the playerbase all the time
-Dota is the biggest and most successful mod in gaming history perhaps aside of Counter Strike (originally a Half-Life Mod)
-Dota's following is huge around the world, and the players are highly competative leading to the elitest depiction of Dota players. It is also an e-sport
-Dota has a steep learning curve, this means that it is not easy for newbies, mainly because if there is one bad player on the team, you will lose. Unlike LoL where you can carry a team with a farmed Vayne etc.
-Dota already has over 100 heroes, as opposed to LoL's 70-80, so there is not much to change
-Strategies are much different due to the nature of the heroes and towers etc.
-Mainly Dota has a huge following, much support from its curent designer IceFrog and the publisher Valve (TF2 has been getting updates for years). Dota 2 will also run off steam, which is seen as a great platform for pc gaming. Valve is seen by many as a great developer of games and undoubtably many will buy the game just because it has the Valve logo on it.
Valve is also highly confident in Dota 2 as they used a 1.6 million USD tournament to show the game to the world.
In the end Dota 2 will succeed even if only Dota 1 players move to Dota 2
PS. Valve is releasing Counter Strike: Global Offensive, a rehash of classic CS with extra features. It will be the same gameplay as the old mod (a copy if you may). CS is bound to do well even if it is only an update due to it's massive loyal following
Never said DotA2 wouldn't do well and thanks for the list of things that are different from LoL. CS > mod than DotA but yeah you said that already and I love valve and think they are a great and smart company. Loved Half-Life when it first came out and CS ... good lord that was a great game, releasing a copy of the old one (not source ****) sounds great to me and I see where you are coming from. Nostalgically it makes sense. And I will love CS Global Offensive I'm sure. However I don't know that releasing it will make it dominate or even be better than the new games like CoD, BF, etc. Do I think CS was greatest fps of all time? Its pretty close. Do I have fond memories of Quake 1 online. Hell yes. The sequels never lived up to it in my eyes. Does the rest of the world feel that way probably not. If they re-released Quake 1 with better graphics and better hit boxes etc would I play it... doubtful. To each his own. Again my post is my 2 cents I stated that I think DotA2 will do well however I believe there is just too much hype for it to live up to.
I would call it anticaption instead of hype. The majority of people interested already know all hte mechanics of the game and how to play it. Most people are not assuming or even thinking about any new things to be added, in their minds they know it will be a good game, since the previous one that will be copied is already so great.
Hype:
"OMG Mass Effect 3 is getting voice commands through kinetk, it will make the game soooo much better"
Reality:
"Ah damn I sound like a ****** trying to use the voice command when i could just press one button, it also works using the standard headset, and half the time it doesnt work since I have an accent"
Dota 2 'hype':
"YESSSS Matching making for DOTA and SWEET GRAPHICS!!!111"
Reality:
Player 1 "OMFG WTF RaGE STORM SPIRIT isnt a Panda anymore, hes a fatty now!!!"
Player 2 "Its just a visual -_- he still plays exactly the same as we've grown to love"
It's from a LoL commentators perspective, making Dota players (including me) facepalm in several places, yes we really don't like mistakes that could be solved with a tad of research

I'm sorry but cs 1.6 and source dominated and keep dominating cod and bf since they came out, not only in the number of players, but also in the competitive level, cs is a e-sport, the skill, aim, teamplay, experience, and intelligence the cs 1.6 teams require to stay on top of the scene is infinitely higher than the teams of other fps games (The exception could be halo in north america)
Current Peak today Game
15,473 57,923 Counter-Strike
13,731 54,960 Counter-Strike: Source
6,958 11,261 Left 4 Dead 2
6,210 20,569 Call of Duty Black Ops - Multiplayer
I think dota2 will have bigger numbers than lol and hon, specially if valve do tournaments with big prizes, even if the number is ten time less than the last one, we'll have to wait and see.
Lol giving out 5 million in prizes season 2. Nothing to laugh at.
That's across a whole year of LoL tournaments, if you were to combine all the money across the globe in prize money for Dota 1 in a single year, it would easily topple that figure.
Dota is oftn refered to as The E-Sport. It is as popular in China as SC2 is in Korea

I agree with all of this but it is also definitely worth mentioning that - for me at least - the main appeal of DOTA 2 are the features external to the gameplay itself. For example, valves coaching system, the integration of interactive guides, the replay and spectaion system and the whole way in general that the community will be a part of the platform making it a much more involved and social game. But most of all, the way in which some of these features and others such as the AI taking over AFK players seem like, for the first time, they might have a meaningful impact of some of the problems that plague this genre (poor matchmakng leading to team mates feeding, AFK players etc etc.)

I completely forgot the coaching and training features. I look forward to seeing how much they help the newbies. Coaching will be an intresting experience on both ends, as you can have bad troll coaches and ignorant newbies that dont listen
AI taking over for leavers etc. worries me. As much as AIs nowadays have evolved so much, they still do not play like a player, they do not do unexpected tatics. For one, it would suck if the ai took over for the initiator.
Replay and Observer modes I forgot, since they were already in Wc3 Engine :/
The first month of ranking for matchmaking will be hell, just like all games with the feature. One of the most recent I can recall was SC2's launch. Everyone was bronze tier and the matches matched newbies with the veterens, making the games painfuling frustrating to play at points.
I do hope the newbies play AI games, while coaches are being established, instead of hopping onto matchmaking and screwing others over as they have no idea what to do.

I heard something about instead of AI' takin' controle over leavers hero, they will make it as player can join instead and replace the leavers spot. Only me that heard that, can't find the "source" anymore though

It said on the DOTA 2 blog that you can basicaly tell the AI what to do, such as farm, play defensive etc. The were still just thinking of the idea at that point though I believe, and in relation to the troll coaches point, you will be rated on your ability as a coach, in fact I hear you will be rated on pretty much everything, from your contribution in discussions, your builds etc etc
DOTAFire is the place to find the perfect build guide to take your game to the next level. Learn how to play a new hero, or fine tune your favorite DotA hero’s build and strategy.
